Muslim Businesses - Women's Clothing & Hijab

Do you remember the days when we used to look and shop around soooo much until we found what we were after? Even then, our outfits still looked a tad weird or incomplete, because we really couldn't FIND what we were after, we just found things that we could make do with.

As a Muslim woman, it is so damn difficult to find something decent to wear. I mean, yeah we need full length sleeves, full length skirts and dresses, etc. etc., but don't we also need to look good?

Now I don't mean this in a way that we have to look good to attract the opposite sex. If you wear a hijab, well then you are representing Islam, because as soon as people see the hijab, they know you are a Muslim. So, yes we have to behave ourselves, and yes we have to dress well.

Today, there are many online Muslim businesses catering to Muslim women. However, I can say that the options and alternatives for Muslim women in Australia are also increasingly growing. We have a few stores in Melbourne which you can personally visit, try out the clothing to see if it fits well and if it looks good on you.

I know that sometimes we are happy to find an outfit online which looks good on the model or on the site, but you never know how it looks until you try it on yourself! I am aware that online stores have return policies, but usually the shipping costs just aren’t worth returning them. Hey! I’m not saying don’t buy from online stores! I am just celebrating the fact that we have a lot more alternatives now than we used to.

As a business owner myself, I am loving it! I know that there are some sisters who own such businesses, and they are not too happy with the growing number of similar businesses thinking that it affects there income. Sustenance is from Allah, so nobody should worry. And the thing is, most are in different suburbs and/or they sell different clothing and different scarves. Everybody has different taste, thus the products available in every store vary. I believe, the more we support each other, the more Allah will help us!

I have heard that there are some stores in Lakemba in Sydney, but I don’t know the details. I will be listing a few of the ones that I know of in Melbourne. I am also happy to inform you that my website for EDB Scarves & Designs will be up soon. So those of you who are from outside of Melbourne or Australia can safely purchase online. I do have a Facebook store, but it doesn’t appeal to everybody, and this will just make things easier, don’t you think?

Now here are some of the stores in Melbourne... I do not know all of them, and I do not have full details for each and every one, so if there are others that you would like to add, please do send them via Comments, and I will add them to the list inshallah.

Ok, me first :)

We will also be getting in small but select range of very chic clothing from Turkey, ranging from budget to high-end. This is currently a home business, so it would be best if you could call or sms to make sure I am home. :) One more thing: I also style hijabs for weddings, engagements, and other special occasions. So if you are interested in having your hijabs styled, you can call me to make a booking.

One of the largest range of scarves (square and rectangle). The also sell abayas. I haven’t really checked out their abayas, but I have been through their range of scarves, and I’m telling you, it is huge! They are made of the fabric you can purchase from fabric stores, but you can find almost every colour and texture here. They also stock large rolls of fabric. So you can purchase the fabric and do the edges yourself if you like!

Bushra Ladies Clothing

Bushra’s clothing range is from Turkey, but they get them manufactured themselves. I don’t know if it has changed, because I haven’t been for a while, but the great thing about Bushra is that they stock a variety of sizes which goes up to size 22-24 in most styles. They also have a select range of Turkish scarves. Another place to visit if you are into the Turkish look!

Zerafet Clothing

Zerafet, which is located on the little strip at the Dallas Shopping Centre is another store that imports clothing from Turkey. I believe that they also have some of their clothing manufactured in Turkey. You can find everything Turkish here ranging from clothing, shoes, sandals, hijabs, etc...

Milli Giyim Islamic Fashion
385 Sydney Rd
Brunswick 3056
9300 5585

This is one of the oldest Muslim Fashion stores that I know. They offer a wide range of clothing and hijab from around the world. The store is owned by a Turkish Muslim association, but you can find traditional clothing from various countries.

Damla Ladies & Childrens Fashion
12 Douglas Mawson Drv
Roxburgh Park 3064
Melbourne

I discovered this store while I was going to do a hijab party in Roxburgh Park. After doing some research on this company, I am inclined to believe that they used to have a store in Brunswick or Coburg (Sydney Rd)? I couldn’t really find too much information on them, but I found out from some ladies that they are a home business like myself, and they have turned their garage in to a shop. I just drove past it, so I don’t know too much, except that they too import from Turkey. I will check it out soon inshaallah, and give you more details.

Sissta Designs
Fawkner 3060
Melbourne

sissta-designs@hotmail.com

The sister who owns this company used to be partners with Sorayya Design. So if you visited Sorayya Design when it was first opened, and you liked this sister’s stuff too, you can visit her website. I couldn’t find address details, so I think she is doing her business online. If you are interested, you can call or email her. As much as I could see from her website, she sells abayas, hijabs, and jewellery. Check out her website for more details.

Flourish with Style is another Muslim home based business in Brunswick which is run by a friend of mine. Her name is Salma. Her line of business is abayas which she gets from a shop in Sydney by the name of Sahara Design. Other shops in sydney also supply her depending on her choices at the time. Her pieces are very elegant and well made. Worth having a look at. Customers can go see her stock by appointment only. Her number is 0403 530 023.

Thanks Anonymous. I really appreciate that. I have never heard of this one, and since it is a home business, I'm sure similarly many others have not heard of it. I will try to get an appointment and pay her a visit soon inshaallah.
